Why have these powerful politicians never made a run at the White House?

friends

Maybe it’s not always great to be King (cough: I mean President).

Four of the most powerful politicians in the Senate & Congress have never run for President. Is it because they don’t believe they could win? Is it more enjoyable being a majority/minority leader than President? Maybe they enjoy the power that comes with the position, and the fact that it’s less pressure than being President? Maybe it’s the job security? A job that you can suck at & still get reelected despite a 4% approval rating?

John Boehner was asked by Jay Leno if he’d ever run, his reply was “No. I like to play golf. I like to cut my own grass, I do drink red wine. I smoke cigarettes. And I’m not giving that up to be president of the United States”. Such an inspiring response.

A quick Google search came up empty when searching for the others’ responses to that same question. I’m sure it would be just as inspiring as their leadership has been.
